WRITING YOUR SPIRITUAL JOURNEY

:00Many of us have been seekers all our lives, travelers on a spiritual journey. The story of that journey is no small thing. It is a tale of healing, joy, pain and transcendence. And writing it can be an act of discovery, a way of illuminating and understanding yourself and the sacred world in a deeper way.

In this afternoon workshop, author Janice Gary will provide writing prompts and bursts of generative exercises to help you trace the arc of your spiritual journey from your religious training  (confirmation, bar mitzvah, meditation, etc.) to private moments of awe, wonder, desperation and healing.

You’ll come away with plenty of material to generate essays, poems, blog posts or the ultimate travelogue – a spiritual memoir.
NOTE: The workshop is being offered free of charge as a gift for writers. I am also using this occasion to help support Unity of the Keys Spiritual Center for those who wish to make a voluntary love offering after the workshop. Contact will be provided after the workshop for those who would like to contribute.

MEMOIR MONDAYS ONLINE

Writing the Changing World

4 Mondays: April 27, May 4, May 11, May 18

Suddenly, it seems, our lives have changed dramatically. We are living in what feels like extraordinary times. But the truth is our lives have always held the shape of a mythic journey. Telling the story of that journey is exactly the work of writing memoir.

In this four week writing workshop, we will use our present circumstances as an opportunity to see our lives in a bigger way, with more bravery and heart. We will explore the “sudden now” as well as the “then,” times in our past when we were faced with big changes. Let’s open up the borders, write about what scares us, what thrills us, what we hope for, what we love, what we’ve learned.

We will talk about what writing memoir means, especially in times like this. And we will write, allowing our stories to emerge organically.

This workshop is for all levels. You do not have to consider yourself a writer to take this class.
